The more you read, the more you appreciate how many of the same middle east arguments are recycled over the decades. Also, it is possible to appreciate just how effective Israel supporters have been, both in the weight of their arguments and in their delivery.
One of my heroes is Maurice Samuel; it is well worth reading his various writings, including his demolishing of the arguments of Prof Arnold Toynbee.
While looking up Samuel on the internet, I came across this audio of a great debate in 1961 between Arnold Toynbee and Dr Yaacov Herzog. If you have an hour or so, it is well worth listening to both the anti Israel critique by Toynbee, and the excellent defence from Herzog – see here
