The sedra Vayakheil and the sedra Pikudai,  usually read together on
Shabbat in non-leap years,  are mainly concerned,  like previous sedras,
with the building of the Mishkan, the tabernacle .  However at the very
beginning of Vayakheil we read of the need to observe the Shabbat and to
refrain from work.
Rabbi Shlomo Riskin points out that the Mishkan is a sanctuary occupying
space, whereas the Shabbat is a sanctuary in time.  It is a spiritual
construction, the purpose of which is to allow “peace and harmony to
become manifest in the world”.
