An important stumbling block to a peaceful Israeli-Arab settlement , has been the Palestinian refugee issue, in particular the “right of return”
The unique transfer of refugee status from generation to generation, has resulted in a magnification of numbers from 700 thousand to more than 5 million, where the original refugees would now number less tan 30,000.
If the refugee status would come into line with other refugee groups, there would be a far greater chance of a peaceful resolution
A recent conference was held on the issue in New York. A summary is provided in the Jerusalem Post here
