The horrific scenes in Cairo, where protesting Copts were run over by Egyptian army vehicles, are a reminder of the parlous situation Arab Christians find themselves in.
Caroline Glick has written an overview where she points out how badly Christians are faring in Arab countries where Islamic populism has taken over. She notes that Lebanon’s Maronite Catholic Patriarch Bechara Rai caused a storm two weeks ago, when he warned French President Sarkozy that the fall of the Assad regime in Syria could be a disaster for Christians in Syria and throughout the region. Today the Western-backed Syrian opposition is dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood. The response by Sarkozy and now the Obama administration is a pitiful one … ignore it. It’s shameful when Christian leadership fail to support their fellows, especially when the injustice is so blatant.
