A friend passed on a fun video celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the American Jewish World Service here. (among others, Lindsay Lohan reveals that she is not Jewish)
The work the AJWS does is very important. As it contributes to civil society, it makes us all proud.
Having been to Senegal some years ago, I was impressed to see the projects AJWS supports there as well as in 30 other countries in the world.
Their mission statement is this:
American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is an international development organization motivated by Judaism’s imperative to pursue justice. AJWS is dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among the people of the developing world regardless of race, religion or nationality. Through grants to grassroots organizations, volunteer service, advocacy and education, AJWS fosters civil society, sustainable development and human rights for all people, while promoting the values and responsibilities of global citizenship within the Jewish community.
