It’s some time ago that I was in Bethlehem with a group of fellow Jewish students on Christmas Eve… not something to try these days.
A facebook page from the Israeli Embassy in Ireland recently made the telling comment that if the Jewish Jesus and Mary were walking through Bethlehem today, the two would possibly be lynched. The statement was predictably met with criticism … and was quickly deleted with apologies. While not politically correct and said to not be an official embassy statement, it nonetheless received a few plaudits for actually telling the truth ie a Jew wandering in Bethlehem would likely not be kindly looked after – see here
Hopefully this argument will help counter the “Jesus as oppressed Palestinian” distortion that we tend to see at Christmas and Easter… and evidently is also seen in line with other distortion of Journalists from Ireland
